Mission Declared: What Are You Laying Down?
This Palm Sunday service featured a time of worship with Tear Off The Roof, Same God, and What A Beautiful Name, followed by a moment of communion, a word of welcome, and a message from Pastor Josh Huisman. The service closed with King of Kings and a time of response.
In his message "Mission Declared: What Are You Laying Down?" from Luke 19:28-44, Pastor Josh explores the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem as the defining moment when Jesus publicly declared himself the fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9. While other Gospels record the waving of palms — a symbol of political nationalism and misplaced expectation — Luke zeroes in on the laying down of cloaks, a royal act pointing to the true kingship of Christ. Josh draws in Daniel's 70 Weeks prophecy and Jesus's weeping over Jerusalem to show how easily we, like the crowds, can come to Jesus with our own agendas rather than surrendering to his. The passage ends with Jesus's haunting words over Jerusalem: "You did not know the time of your visitation." The sermon closes with a pastoral invitation: this Palm Sunday, whatever you're holding onto — lay it down.
